The Icknield Way Parish is delighted to welcome our new Rector
Rev'd Dr James Webster
It was there that I developed a passion shared by many of Jesus' early
followers - fishing. I also share another passion with them - following Jesus
as best I can, and enabling others to experience the fulness of life he offers and to grow in their faith.
I am married to Debs and we
have three wonderful daughters, two equally wonderful sons-in-law and three
lively grandchildren.
Having trained originally
as a water engineer, I worked in low-income countries in the water and
sanitation sector for 25 years. We lived as a family in rural Uganda and
Ethiopia for many years, working through the local church, seconded from
Tearfund. I also worked in many emergency contexts with other agencies such as
Oxfam and the UN.
I gained a PhD in cultural
anthropology related to this work, and after a few years lecturing at Cranfield
University and running my own consultancy, was ordained in 2013, serving in St
Albans Diocese in a dual role as a vicar and trainer of curates (vicars with
L-plates).
